Before You Begin
This Is More Than a Personality Label
Every person communicates, makes decisions, responds to pressure, and relates to others in somewhat different ways. Some people naturally move quickly and focus on results. Others are energized by people, conversation, and new possibilities. Some value stability and cooperation, while others carefully examine details before taking action.
Encourager DISC helps you recognize these natural behavioral patterns. The purpose is not to place you in a box. It is to give you language for understanding how you may naturally approach relationships, leadership, service, conflict, and change.
When used wisely, DISC can help you appreciate how God has uniquely formed you while also showing you areas where Christlike growth may be needed.
Pause Before Discovery
Slow Down Before You Search for Answers
Our culture encourages us to move quickly from one thing to the next. We often rush toward answers before taking time to reflect. It can be tempting to hurry through an assessment simply because we are eager to see the results.
Christian formation invites us to move differently. Growth often begins by slowing down long enough to become attentive—to ourselves, to the people around us, and most importantly, to God.
As you work through this guide, do not simply look for a personality label. Ask God to help you recognize the ways He has uniquely formed you and the ways He continues to shape you into the likeness of Christ.
Why DISC Matters
Greater Self-Awareness Can Help You Serve Others Better
Understanding your natural tendencies can help you respond more thoughtfully in everyday life, relationships, ministry, and leadership.
Communicate More Clearly
You may discover why certain communication styles feel natural to you and why others require more patience or explanation.
Understand Your Reactions
Your results may help you recognize how you tend to respond to pressure, conflict, uncertainty, change, or difficult decisions.
Appreciate Other People
People who approach life differently are not necessarily being difficult. They may simply see priorities, relationships, and decisions through a different behavioral lens.
Grow as a Leader
Self-awareness can help you lead without assuming that everyone should think, communicate, or work exactly as you do.
The Four DISC Patterns
Four Ways People Commonly Approach Life and Relationships
Most people display a blend of all four patterns, although one or two may be more natural or visible.
Dominance
Often focused on results, action, challenge, and progress.
People with strong D tendencies may be decisive, direct, and willing to take responsibility. They may need to grow in patience, listening, gentleness, and awareness of how their intensity affects others.
Influence
Often focused on people, enthusiasm, connection, and possibility.
People with strong I tendencies may be encouraging, expressive, optimistic, and relational. They may need to grow in follow-through, careful listening, consistency, and attention to important details.
Steadiness
Often focused on cooperation, support, stability, and trust.
People with strong S tendencies may be dependable, patient, compassionate, and loyal. They may need to grow in speaking up, addressing conflict, adapting to change, and setting healthy boundaries.
Conscientiousness
Often focused on accuracy, quality, logic, and responsibility.
People with strong C tendencies may be thoughtful, careful, analytical, and dependable. They may need to grow in flexibility, decisiveness, trust, and accepting that not every situation can be perfected.

Your Deepest Identity
Your Profile Describes Patterns. It Does Not Define You.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10
DISC may help describe how you naturally behave, but your deepest identity is found in Christ. You are more than a profile, a personality pattern, a leadership style, or a ministry role.
Your results should therefore be received with humility. They may explain some of your tendencies, but they do not excuse unloving behavior. Statements such as “That is just the way I am” can prevent growth. Christian formation invites every personality style to become increasingly shaped by the character of Jesus.
Every DISC style reflects both strengths to be celebrated and areas that can be transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit. Christian maturity is not about becoming a different personality. It is about allowing every part of your personality to become more like Jesus.
Preparing for Discovery
Prepare Your Heart for the Assessment
The goal is not to produce a perfect profile. The goal is to answer honestly so that the results can offer a helpful picture of your natural patterns in this present season.
Answer Honestly
Choose the response that most naturally describes you, not the one that sounds most admirable or spiritual.
Think About Today
Answer according to your normal patterns in your present season, rather than who you were many years ago.
Use Your First Instinct
Avoid analyzing every question too deeply. Your first response is often the clearest reflection of your natural tendency.
Avoid Role-Based Answers
Do not answer only according to what your job, church position, or family role requires from you.
Remain Open
Your results may confirm what you already know or reveal something unexpected. Receive both possibilities with curiosity.
Pray for Wisdom
Ask God to use the experience to deepen self-awareness, strengthen relationships, and support continued growth.
Receiving Your Results
Four Healthy Ways to Respond to What You Discover
Notice What Rings True
Identify the descriptions that accurately reflect how you normally communicate, decide, lead, or respond under pressure.
Pay Attention to Tension
Consider both the strengths you recognize and the areas that may create difficulty in relationships, teamwork, or ministry.
Invite Trusted Perspective
A spouse, pastor, mentor, ministry leader, or trusted friend may help you understand how your patterns affect other people.
Choose One Faithful Step
Do not try to change everything at once. Identify one practical way to communicate, listen, lead, or serve more faithfully.
Personal Reflection
Consider These Questions Before You Begin
In what situations do communication misunderstandings most often arise for you?
What types of people, environments, or responsibilities tend to energize you?
How do you usually respond when you feel pressured, rushed, or misunderstood?
What is one relationship or leadership area in which greater self-awareness could help you grow?
Take a Moment
Pause Before You Continue
Before continuing, pause for a few seconds. Ask God to give you an honest heart, a teachable spirit, and the wisdom to receive whatever you discover. The goal is not simply to learn something about yourself, but to become more like Christ.
Lord, thank You for creating me with purpose and for continuing to shape my life. Help me answer these questions honestly and receive my results with humility. Show me how my strengths can be used to serve others, and reveal any areas where You are inviting me to grow. Help me become more patient, loving, wise, and faithful as I follow Jesus. Amen.
